‘voltron: legendary defender’ is a refreshingly diverse animated series, especially when you compare it to all the versions that came before it. unfortunately, as in every fandom, it can sometimes seem like the voices of fans of color are drowned out or not heard. that’s why @poclance and i have decided to create a network for voltron’s fans of color!
who constitutes a person of color?
‘person of color’ can be defined broadly as “anyone who identifies as black, asian, indigenous, native, pacific islander, (nonwhite) latinx, and/or (nonwhite) middle eastern. this includes people who are descendants of people who originally inhabited african, american, oceanic, asian, pacific islander, etc. regions but don’t use any of the above labels.” (credit to @wocinsolidarity for this!)
who constitutes a fan of voltron?
do you like voltron? well ok then you’re a fan of voltron
what are the requirements for joining?
- be a person of color
- like voltron
- reblog this post
- fill out this form
- follow the tag #voltronofcolor
- follow the blog voltronofcolor
sounds pretty simple! is there anything else i might need?
it sounds simple because it is simple! we’re going to have a skype group chat for everyone to interact, although joining this group chat is completely optional. our rules for the skype group are pretty much the most basic of them all: please be nice to one another and if you have issues you need to work out, we ask that you do it in private chat so you don’t upset people or get others involved. also maybe check out the mods?
how can i get involved if i don’t want to join the skype group/i don’t want to join the network/i’m not a poc?
we’re also going to have a blog where we post/reblog voltron things, particularly things that are specifically geared towards voltron’s characters of color. feel free to tag us in things using the #voltronofcolor tag, even if you’re not part of the network!
